The UT Southwestern Cancer Genetics Program provides several educational opportunities for prospective genetic counseling students interested in learning more about the field of genetic counseling and cancer genetics. In accordance with local and national COVID-19 safety recommendations, all educational opportunities are currently being offered remotely only via Microsoft Teams until further notice.

Participants will be invited to take part in the following educational opportunities:

  • Education Hour: Bimonthly presentation from a genetic counselor on cancer genetics, genetic technologies, and other genetic counseling specialty areas specifically designed for individuals interested in the field. Prospective students may attend any of these presentations. Presentations are typically one hour. Scheduling varies monthly based on presenter availability, but presentations are typically Tuesday-Thursday at 12 PM CST.

  • Journal Club: Bimonthly genetic counselor review and discussion of recent cancer genetics publications. Journal club takes place on the second and fourth Wednesdays of the month via Microsoft Teams from 3:30-4:00 PM CST.

  • Informational Interview: One time opportunity to schedule a 15-20 minute informational interview with a genetic counselor. Informational interviews will occur via phone or video. Please prepare questions to ask the genetic counselor.
